The Witch

Inspired by "The Witch" by Arthus Pilorget, I set out to create a scene in 3D that carried a similar painterly feel, while inspiring horror. This was my first full environment and the biggest project I've made to date.

Stylized Curl Groom

My goal with this groom was to get as close to the concept art as possible. Since this was my first curly groom, I spent a lot of time trying different ways to achieve that look using Houdini's built in tools. It required a bit of VEX, but I'm very happy with the result!

The complex puzzle of the guy's groom led me to trying my hand at an optimized, streamlined curl workflow for the Witch. While the finished groom on her is straight, the tool I built was capable of creating nice curls of different shapes and sizes, ready to be worked with.

Creature Groom

Like Teto (see Nausicaa Project), the dog's groom was largely procedural, based off of advect curves and masks. Since animals often look like their owners, I wanted him to look as silly as the guy. Hence, the mutton shops!
